10 Ways to use Aquacare Bleach

Though bleach is found in laundry rooms across the world, many people don't realize that it can do more than keep your socks looking white. Bleach is one of the most versatile household products on the market and can be used in virtually every room of the house. To properly use bleach in all areas of the home, consider some of our tips below

1. CLEAN OFF MOULD AND MILDEW

Bleach is useful for removing mould and mildew both inside and outside your home.
Bleach is especially suited for the following chores:

Remove mould and mildew from the grout between your bathroom tiles. Use Aquacare Citrus Charged Bleach Spray and spray on the affected area, leave for 30 minutes before rinsing.
Get mould and mildew off your shower curtains. Wash them in warm water with 1/2 cup Aquacare bleach and 1/4 cup laundry detergent. Let the washer run for a couple of minutes before adding the bleach.
Rid your rubber shower mat of mildew. Soak in Aquacare Lemon or Regular bleach for 30minutes-1 hour. Rinse well.
Get mildew and other stains off unpainted cement, patio stones, or stucco. Pour Aquacare bleach over affected area. Scrub vigorously with a stiff or wire brush and rinse. If it is a dark stain leave the bleach to sit for longer before rinsing.

2. STERILIZE SECONDHAND ITEMS

Remember Mum saying, "Put that down. You don't know where it's been"? She had a point - especially when it comes to toys or kitchen utensils picked up at second hand shops and garage sales. Just to be on the safe side, take your secondhand waterproof items and soak them for 5-10 minutes in a solution containing 1/2 cup bleach and 4 litres warm water. Rinse well, then air-dry, preferably in sunlight.

3. DISINFECT CHOPPING BOARDS

Don't use ordinary household cleaner to clean a chopping block that you have cut raw chicken on. Instead, pour Aquacare Regular Bleach on the board and scrub the surface with a dish wash brush. Scrub in small circles then wipe with a slightly damp cloth. Leave to air dry.

4. BRIGHTEN GLASSWARE

Put the sparkle back in your glasses and dishes by adding a dessertspoon of bleach to your soapy dishwater as you're washing your glassware. Be sure to rinse well.

5. DISINFECT RUBBISH BINS

First hose the loose debris with a garden hose. Then pour 1-2 cups of Aquacare bleach and several drops of dishwashing liquid. Pour in warm water and using a long-handled scrub brush scour the solution on the bottom and sides of the container. Empty, then rinse with the hose, empty it again, and let air-dry.

6. KEEP CUT FLOWERS FRESH FOR LONGER

Cut flowers will stay fresh longer if you add 1/4 teaspoon bleach per litre and a half of vase water. Another popular recipe calls for 3 drops bleach and 1 teaspoon sugar in 1 litre water. This will also keep the water from getting cloudy and inhibit the growth of bacteria.

7. KILL WEEDS

Do weeds seem to thrive in the cracks and crevices of your walkways? Try pouring a bit of Aquacare bleach over them. After a day or two, you can simply pull them out, and the bleach will keep them from coming back. Just be careful not to get bleach on the grass or plantings bordering the walkway.

8. GET RID OF MOSS AND ALGAE

To remove slippery and unsightly moss and algae on your bricks, concrete, or stone walkways, scrub them with a solution of 1cup bleach to 5 litres of water †if the moss and algae is thick use bleach neat. Be careful not to get bleach on your grass or ornamental plants.

9. SANITIZE GARDENING TOOLS

When you cut that diseased stalk off your rosebush with your clippers you should sterilize it so the disease does not infect other plants. Sterilize it by washing it with 1/2 cup bleach in 1 litre water. Let the tool air-dry in the sun, then rub on a few drops of oil to prevent rust.

10. REMOVING ODOURS FROM DRAINS

Pour or spray Aquacare Bleach in a solution of 1 cup of bleach to 4 litres water down your drains inside and out on a fortnightly basis to prevent odours. Flush with water after 30minutes.
